VIDEO MUSIC

While studying cinema history and motion picture production at Sonoma State University in California during the 1970s my vision was motion pictures with music but no lyrics or dialog. Visual narrative enhanced by instrumental music. MTV started in 1980 but my idea was not Music Video that starts with the music and adds video. My approach was Video Music that starts with the video and then adds the music similar to Hollywood movies. But the movie industry likes music to set the mood without the audience being aware of the music. My images dance with the music that merges equally with the visuals to form a fusion of moving light and sound. In other words a new music genre that was not available yet because it was still being invented.

In the late ‘70s the best soundtrack music I could find that worked well with my style of films was editing music sequences of electronic musicians like Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, etc. At best these were only work-in-progress soundtracks that without a music license my films were dead. By 1984 it was obvious to me that I was to early in the technological development of independent filmmaking unless you had money. So I put my super-8 movies and video tapes in the closet and turned my curiosity to 35mm film still photography and those new computers.

In 2009 about 25 years later with a magnificent new video camera the time was right to begin again. The old movies were out of the closet and transferred to digital files, cleaned up and re-edited. Now began my search for some legal music to finish projects that were 30 years old. Royalty Free Music – like imagining it and there it is but better.  Shockwave-Sound is my dream come true with all the incredible composers presenting such great music variety and skills.  What a joy as a video director to find this huge resource for me to collaborate on all my projects.

Starting to search the internet music libraries my focus was music soundtracks for my old films. Composer names were all unknown to me so tagging music tracks was by the instrumental sounds and pace. After finishing my old movies I began searching new music for my current video projects. Editing with the free preview download (which is a fantastic tool, Thank You!) and then purchasing the tracks for the final cut it was time to create the music credit title. The name that kept coming up over and over was Bjorn Lynne. Today I have 20 videos and 8 have Bjorn’s music and the videos his music is not in he was always among the finalist. He was reading my music mind.  Shockwave-Sound is now my main source for Royalty Free Music.

Having so much music to choose from allows me too know what it is I am not searching for and hear pieces of music that help me define the details of what I am searching for. By the time the right music comes along it is easy to recognize. As a visual guy the Preview Player sound graphics is my music story board. Searching, tagging, buying and downloads are simple and easy.  The graduated license fees partner with my project budget. Overall the Shockwave-Sound experience has been like finding a music collaborator for my video artwork and it is an honor to endorse Shockwave-Sound and
Thank You Bjorn for your beautiful music and a wonderful website.
